Israeli soldiers found explosives hidden in a cage after smugglers managed to get them through a heavily guarded Gaza-Israel passage. The military said the explosives, 13 pounds of TNT, were headed for a Palestinian in the West Bank and were meant for a terrorist attack against Israelis and that this was the first known successful smuggling of explosives since 2004, when two Palestinian suicide bombers hid in a container and blew themselves up in Ashdod killing 10 Israelis. In other news, Ethiopian doctors are learning new methods of treatment in Israel from local physicians who gained experience caring for HIV-infected Ethiopian immigrants. About 1.5 million people in Ethiopia, including more than 100,000 children, have AIDS or the HIV virus; this training is a small step in combating the AIDS epidemic that is plaguing the world. Lastly, in Israeli sports news, Israel is gearing up for a big game against Malaga of Spain. Recently, Maccabi Tel Aviv reported that they would be starting Lior Eliyahu, a newcomber. Three other newcombers are expected to play in the game. Maccabi Tel-Aviv says they expect to beat Spain and plan to give “200 percent for the fans”.
