Israel Awareness Update September 4, 2001 By: Yoni Merola, Natick USY Programming VP Unfortunately, violence continues to rock the holy land. Today thirteen people were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up not far from the site of the Sbarro restaurant in downtown Jerusalem. This along with many other attacks cause the Israeli goverment to face some tough decisions. Efforts are being made for the two organizations to meet and speak about peace efforts in the near future. Let us hope for better days. In other news each of the candidates in today's Labor Party primary, Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Knesset Speaker Avraham Burg, expressed confidence yesterday that after the polls close at 9 p.m., he will take over as chairman of the Kenesset. Finally Israel's valiant effort fell just short as it was ousted from the European Basketball Championships in a 71-67 loss to Spain last night in Ankara. Israel has owned the Championship for more than 3 years. Use the back button in your browser to read more updates or go back to the Natick USY Homepage.
